A 10-minute synchronised pyromusical combining fireworks, pyrotechnics, lighting effects and music will be staged above Victoria Harbour on 31 December 2018. The ¡°Bank of Communications Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations¡±, a highly anticipated event organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and title-sponsored by the Bank of Communications Co., Ltd. Hong Kong Branch, is set to be a grand celebration for visitors and locals.
This year¡¯s Countdown Celebrations will feature award-winning fireworks by an Italian maker to curate a stunning ¡°Celestial Kaleidoscope¡±. Together with pyrotechnics and rooftop searchlights, the show will illuminate the city with layers of visual effects. Towards the end of the show, 45 patterns of fireworks will be launched within a single minute to usher in the year 2019 in a splashing manner.
HKTB Chairman Dr Peter Lam said, ¡°Over the years, Hong Kong¡¯s countdown celebrations have been among the most prominent in Asia, generating extensive international media coverage. One distinct feature of our pyromusical is the synchronisation of the music and visual elements. Striking fireworks and pyrotechnics change in form, colour and speed in accordance with the soundtrack, giving the spectators a sensational, multi-dimensional experience. This year, we are injecting various new ideas into the choreography and design of the show. For example, we will be using multi-award winning fireworks by an Italian fireworks maker for the very first time to create more diverse and refined fireworks patterns. We hope this year¡¯s event will continue to garner international exposure for Hong Kong and reinforce the city¡¯s status as the world¡¯s most popular travel destination.¡±
Ms Nancy Chan, Chief Executive, Bank of Communications (Hong Kong) Limited, said, ¡°In w
coming the year 2019, the Bank of Communications is in full support of the first large-scale landmark event celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the People¡¯s Republic of China in Hong Kong, with the theme ¡®Welcoming the New Year while Lighting up Hong Kong¡¯. For 110 years, the Bank of Communications has been moving forward with the community of Hong Kong. Through supporting the event, we hope to express the commitment of the Bank of Communications to promoting the economic prosperity and stability of the city.¡±
Four Highlights of the Pyromusical
The 10-minute pyromusical have four key features:
1. Synchronisation of music and visual and five layers of visual effects:
The fireworks, pyrotechnics and other lighting effects will transform in tandem with the soundtrack, composed and arranged by famed music producer Mr Chiu Tsang Hei. For example, pyrotechnics will ¡°dance¡± like a serpent in a scene where the background music is played by the erhu and the guzheng.
The visual picture alone consists of five layers, beginning with pyrotechnics launched from barges, then moving upwards to the numerals ¡°2019¡± and New Year blessings displayed on the façade of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, to lighting effects projected from buildings and landmarks, to rooftop pyrotechnics, and finishing with fireworks high in the sky above the harbour.
2. A ¡°Celestial Kaleidoscope¡± created by an award-winning Italian-made firework:
Fireworks by an Italian maker which has earned awards in numerous international competitions will be used in the scene titled ¡°Celestial Kaleidoscope¡±. The patterns created will change like patterns in a kaleidoscope, from diamond to circle to half-moon. The colours will also evolve accordingly, from gold to purple to green, to arrest the attention of the spectators.
3. 45 patterns of fireworks in one single minute:
During the grand finale, 45 varying fireworks patterns, such as peony, daisy, cherry blossom and violet will bloom within a minute, turning the night sky above Victoria Harbour into a mesmerising ocean of flowers. Other auspicious patterns including candy, smiley face and heart will also be featured to bring hope and prosperity.
4. Pyrotechnic ¡°shooting stars¡± in four colours:
Starting from 11pm on 31 December 2018, pyrotechnic ¡°shooting stars¡± will be emitted every 1
5 minutes from three buildings on Hong Kong Island, namely Harbour Centre, Harcourt Hous and Cheung Kong Center. Visitors and locals alike can make wishes upon the shooting stars which come in four colours – red, green, gold and
silver, symbolising love, happiness, wealth and good health respectively.
Stage performances by a superb line-up of singers
Also starting from 11pm, the HKTB will kick off performances at the Hong Kong Cultural
Centre (HKCC) Viewing Deck. Invited performers include veteran singer George Lam, up-and-coming boy group MIRROR and popular singer AGA. Their performances will be projected in real time on the façade of the HKCC so that more visitors and local residents can enjoy them. Both the performances and the pyromusical will be broadcast live on ViuTV 99 for the first time
